ASTM A333 Gr 6 Pipe Price
ASTM A333 Grade 6 pipe pricing starts from ₹70/kg and goes up to ₹150/kg or $0.76 – $1.30 per kg. Final pricing varies with NPS size, schedule and wall thickness, seamless or welded form, order quantity, required documentation, and current steel market conditions. A333 Gr 6 costs nearly 15% to 30% more than ASTM A106 Gr B due to mandatory impact testing, tighter manufacturing controls, and additional quality documentation. Seamless pipe costs more than ERW or welded equivalents of the same size. Pricing also depends on raw material costs, which change with global steel indices. ASTM A333 Grade 6 Chemical Composition
The table below lists the chemical composition limits for ASTM A333 / ASME SA-333 Grade 6 low-temperature pipe. The restricted carbon content provides good weldability. Manganese strengthens the matrix without compromising impact toughness at sub-zero temperatures. Phosphorus and sulphur are kept low to reduce the risk of hot cracking during welding.
ASTM A333 Grade 6 Mechanical Properties
The following table presents the tensile and impact requirements for ASTM A333 Grade 6 pipe per ASME SA-333. Elongation values apply to walls of 5/16 in. (8 mm) or greater. For thinner walls, the minimum elongation reduces by 1.75% for each 1/32 in. decrease below 5/16 in.
| Property | Imperial | Metric |
|---|---|---|
| Tensile Strength (min) | 60,000 psi | 415 MPa |
| Yield Strength (min) | 35,000 psi | 240 MPa |
| Elongation in 2 in. (50 mm), min | 30% | 30% |
| Impact Test Temperature | -50°F | -46°C |

ASTM A333 Gr 6 Low-Temperature Pipe Industrial Applications
ASTM A333 Grade 6 pipes serve industries that operate piping systems at sub-zero temperatures. The 4 primary application sectors are as follows.
Oil and Gas Industry
A333 Gr 6 LTCS pipe is used in arctic drilling platforms, sub-sea pipelines, and gas processing plants where ambient or process temperatures fall below -29 °C.
LNG and Cryogenic Processing
LNG liquefaction and regasification terminals require impact-tested pipe for process lines carrying natural gas at temperatures approaching -46 °C. Grade 6 is the standard specification for these systems.
Refrigeration and Cold Storage
Industrial refrigeration plants use A333 Grade 6 pipe for ammonia and refrigerant transfer lines. Cold storage facilities operating below -29 °C specify this grade for compliance with ASME B31.5.
Power Generation
Low-temperature carbon steel pipe is installed in power plant cooling water systems, steam condensate return lines, and air separation units where operating temperatures dip below standard carbon steel service limits.
ASTM A333 Gr 6 vs ASTM A106 Gr B
The primary difference between ASTM A333 Grade 6 and ASTM A106 Grade B is mandatory impact testing. A333 Grade 6 requires Charpy V-notch testing at -46 °C, while A106 Grade B carries no mandatory impact test requirement.
| Parameter | ASTM A333 Grade 6 | ASTM A106 Grade B |
|---|---|---|
| Impact Test Required | Yes, at -46°C | No |
| Min. Service Temperature | -46°C (-50°F) | -29°C (with supplementary testing) |
| Tensile Strength (min) | 415 MPa (60,000 psi) | 415 MPa (60,000 psi) |
| Yield Strength (min) | 240 MPa (35,000 psi) | 240 MPa (35,000 psi) |
| Carbon (max) | 0.30% | 0.30% |
| Heat Treatment | Normalised / Normalised + Tempered | Hot-finished or normalised |
ASTM A333 Gr 6 Heat Treatment
ASTM A333 Grade 6 pipes are furnished in the normalised or normalised and tempered condition. The normalising process involves heating the pipe above its upper critical temperature and cooling in still air; this refines the grain structure and improves impact toughness at low temperatures.
Hot-finished seamless pipe may be supplied without separate normalising, provided it passes the required Charpy V-notch impact test at -46 °C. Cold-drawn pipe, on the other hand, must undergo normalising or normalising and tempering as a mandatory post-drawing treatment. We confirm the heat treatment conditions on every mill test certification
